Path of Exile 2: What is Reforging Bench?
Reforging Bench is an interesting crafting option in PoE 2. This allows you to combine unused items to create a new item.
This is a good option to recycle gear with no use and a chance to create something better. In fact, the Reforging Bench can also upgrade the items in some cases.
You need three of the same items to create a new item in the Reforging Bench. However, remember that the items must have the same rarity and type.
You get a chance to receive the same item with better stats or even an upgraded item. However, it’s important to note that the Reforging process is random. So, there’s no telling whether the rerolled stats will be up to your liking or not.
How to Unlock Reforging Bench in PoE 2?
New to the game? You need to wait till you reach Act 3 to access Reforging Bench. In Act 3, you will take the “Legacy of the Vaal” quest to unlock “The Drowned City” area.
After the completion of the quest, speak with “Oswald” (found in Ziggurat Encampment). You can find the NPC in the northwestern corner of the encampment.
Oswald will give you the “Treasures of Utzaal” quest, which will take you to the Molten Valut. Fighting the enemies and defeating the ForgeMaster (Mektul) will complete the quest.
Once the Mektul is defeated, you will get the “Hammer of the Kamasa” as a drop item. Pick the item and go back to the town using a portal to talk to Oswald again.

Tip: Out of all the bosses in the Path of Exile 2, Mektul is one of the tough bosses. He is a little sluggish and deals fire damage which means you must be good at dodging. You need to take him down during the cooldown time between the attacks. Also, you need to beat the Mektul in 4 minutes or else the area will be filled with lava and kill you.
PoE 2: How to Use Reforging Bench?
You need 3 same items to create a new item or upgrade the existing one. The 3 items must be the same and should also belong to the same rarity class.
For example, if you want to use the Reforging Bench for a magic item, then all 3 of them must be of the same type. Similarly, using the Reforging process on rare items means you need a total of 3 same rare items. The three items can have different affixes; you just need to focus on the rarity and type.
Here’s how to use the Reforging Bench:
- Put the 3 items in the Reforging Bench’s slots.
- Press the Reforge button.
- The 3 items will be combined into a new item with different modifiers.
The Reforging is based purely on luck, so be ready to expect a certain degree of randomness. What you really get is just a chance of getting a better item.
However, there’s always a chance that you may end up with a far worse item with unimpressive stats. At the very least, you get to clear up the space, which can be used for something better.
